ica project

The anchor of this design is the ability of the room to absorb sound. Encompassing almost the entire space is a soundproofing structure. Not only does this large structure remove sound but it connects, and brings together the space. The structure embodies the Institutes' ability to bring many different works together to create a cohesive message. Every component of this structure is unique and comes together as one as it reaches to the floor.

The ICA was first opened in Richmond Virginia in 2018. This multidisciplinary institute was designed by Steven Hull. The modern design of this building was representative of the ICA's mission of "moving into the future". On the second floor of the building, there is a collaborative learning space. The client was interested in redesigning the space to be a podcast recording area open to the community and visiting podcast hosts. Considering the nature of recording it was key in the design that this space would be keen in absorbing sound created in the room. The client also wanted areas within the space for visiting hosts to have an area to lounge. As well as an area for classes to come to meet in the space.
